About the Program
In 2010 the Midwest Center for Spiritual Transformation forged an academic ministry partnership with Hannibal-LaGrange University to offer Bible and Ministry courses for college credit in Cape Girardeau, MO. This opens the door for numerous pastors, ministers, and lay leaders to improve their ministry awareness and practice through formal academic training.
Each semester (spring, summer, and fall) two courses will be offered. One course will meet on Monday evenings from 6-9PM while the other course will meet on three condensed weekends during the semester and will have a significant online learning component. Once an applicant is approved for admission, they may choose to take any course or courses that they believe will benefit them. All courses offered in conjunction with Hannibal-LaGrange University are fully accredited college courses.
A key component of this program is the opportunity for adult learners to earn the Associate of Divinity (A.Div.) degree without being required to travel to the campus of a Christian college. The A.Div. can be earned 100% in Cape Girardeau on the campus of Lynwood Baptist Church. This 60 hour program includes 12 hours of general education requirements, 40 hours of core divinity courses, and 6 hours of special/advanced topic electives. Students who take both courses each semester can complete the A.Div. program in three years.
In addition to being locally accessible, the cost of the program is an attractive feature. The per hour tuition rate of most colleges and universities dwarf the rate for the A.Div. program in Cape Girardeau. The tuition for courses taken at the Midwest Center for Spiritual Transformation is $25/credit hour. The equates to just $1500 for the entire degree program (plus the cost of books). All potential students are also required to complete an application for admission to Hannibal-LaGrange University and pay the one-time $25 application fee.
